About the writing checker
How does the IELTS writing checker work?
It measures the features examiners reward under the four Writing criteria: how fully you answer the task, how your ideas and paragraphs are organised and linked, the range and accuracy of your vocabulary (including spelling), and the range and accuracy of your grammar. It then gives a band for each criterion and an overall estimate, with specific suggestions.
Is the band score official?
No. It is an automatic estimate to guide your practice, deliberately on the cautious side. Only a certified IELTS examiner marking your real test gives an official band.
Is my essay saved?
Not unless you are signed in. Without an account the text is checked and nothing is stored. With a free account, your essays and scores are saved so you can track your Writing band over time.
How many words should I write?
At least 150 words for Task 1 and 250 words for Task 2. Answers that are too short lose marks for Task Achievement or Task Response.
